Kraft vs White Boxes: Which Should You Choose?
Updated · Vorex Packaging
Choose kraft boxes for a natural, earthy look that suits simple one- or two-color designs and brands with an organic or handmade feel. Choose white boxes when you need bright, accurate colors, photography or detailed artwork, since white board shows ink as designed while brown kraft darkens most colors.

|---|---|---|
| Base color | Natural brown, unbleached | Bright white, bleached or coated |
| Print result | Colors appear darker and muted | Colors appear bright and close to the design |

Appearance and printing
Kraft board is unbleached, so it keeps the brown color of the wood fiber. Ink printed on it mixes visually with the brown base, which makes most colors look darker and less saturated. Black, dark blue, deep green and white ink look strong; light pinks, yellows and pastels can look muddy. White board is bleached or coated, giving a bright surface where CMYK and Pantone colors print close to how they were designed.
Brand perception
Many shoppers associate kraft with natural and less processed products, which is why it is popular for soap, candles, coffee, bakery and handmade goods. White suits cosmetics, electronics, supplements and brands with colorful or minimal modern styles.
Sustainability
Both kraft and white paper-based boxes are widely recyclable when they are not combined with plastic laminates. Color alone does not make a box more sustainable, so avoid implying it does. If you print environmental claims, check current FTC and Competition Bureau guidance.

Choose white if...

- Your brand look is clean, bright or luxurious.
- You plan premium finishes such as spot UV on a laminated surface.
A common middle path is a kraft outside with white or printed inside, or white board printed with a kraft-like texture. A digital proof helps you compare.
