What Is Sleeve?
Updated · Vorex Packaging
A sleeve is an open-ended printed wrap that slides over a box, tray or product to carry branding and information. Sleeves range from narrow belly bands to full covers over a drawer tray, and they let brands add a custom look or seasonal design to stock packaging, or create a two-part sliding box.
A packaging sleeve is a tube of paperboard or paper, open at both ends, that wraps around another component. It can cover the whole item or only a band across the middle.
Common uses
- Tray and sleeve boxes: a tray slides out of the sleeve like a drawer.
- Belly bands: a narrow band around a box, bundle or soap bar.
- Food sleeves: wraps around trays, cups or sandwiches.
- Seasonal or limited editions: a printed sleeve over plain packaging.
Why buyers use sleeves
Sleeves can be a flexible way to brand packaging: you can keep one plain or stock box and print several sleeve designs for different flavors, scents or seasons. They also create a satisfying slide-open moment. Measure the outside dimensions of the item the sleeve covers, and allow a small tolerance so it slides on without being loose.
